Brexit Guidance for Businesses from HMRC

Its Brexit Day. Finally. The day we never thought would come, some wished it would never come, others couldn’t wait for it to arrive. And here we are. So what will tomorrow bring for all UK businesses that import and export to the EU? Here’s what the HMRC says..

1st February to 31st December 2020 is an implementation period. This means trade will continue as usual within this time. During this implementation period, the UK government will be negotiating a new trade agreement with the EU, to take effect on 1st January 2021.

From 1st Jan 2021, the way UK businesses trade with the EU will change. If these changes will affect your business you should begin preparations now by

  1. Ensuring you have a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number
  2. Preparing to make customs declarations
